Katie Song-Yi Nam

Katie established her voice lesson studio in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, in order to spread the joy of music to children and neighbors in her hometown in Massachusetts. Since then, she has taught voice as a music teacher assistant and tutor at PS 397 Spruce Street School for Grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. She also served as a voice Instructor for Jacobs Academy Virtual Academy to students in the Dominican Republic and Indiana. Katie was also a proud graduate instructor to IU Undergrad students while studying vocal pedagogy at the IU Jacobs School of Music.

Philosophy

Whether you want to learn some of your favorite songs, polish your book for auditions, or develop yourself as an artist, Katie will help you find your voice. 

 

Musical theatre, opera, and pop can be more intertwined than you think. Katie believes that a strong foundation in classical singing and bel canto allows the voice to become sustainable and flexible. A technique developed in classical voice training can allow you to become a more versatile and well-rounded artist. As a vocology and speech langauge pathology researcher, Katie cares about her student’s vocal health and makes it a priority to make science-informed decisions during lessons. Ultimately, Katie’s lesson goal is for every student to sing with ease, confidence, and joy.

Katie currently resides in Boston, MA and can teach in person lessons (upon request) and virtual lessons.
